when you're on toyhouse and see all these rules people have about their adopts and closed species and there's nothing necessarily wrong with that but you're like "how the fuck do they have the energy to enforce any of this?" and your own adopt rules are pretty much "once I have your money, I don't fuckin care what you do with the thing you bought"

Meanwhile I'm over here wishing someone would even WANT to make a member of my species. Or fanworks of any of my other stuff...

I've been thinking about this, too. Mainly due to a neopets-like game I am playing where some artists of the ''closed'' species have granted the authors the right to let people turn their ''villagers'' into these species (wickerbeasts, dutch angel dragons etc. etc.), or have the species as pets for their characters.
So, if I was just a rando with no involvement in the furry fandom and played the game, made a villager like that and treated it like a character without knowing anything about its origins... how are they gonna enforce those rules? I made the villager, I bought the potion or the plushie that transformed them into the species... now what?
