Thinking about the Adventure Time finale again and being sad about how Betty ended up, but also it does fit her because from what we saw of her during the show, she pretty much did nothing but jump into extremely life-altering decisions that she wouldn't be able to just go back from.  Kinda like Dave in 2001: A Space Odyssey.  Especially at the end.  Betty wished for whatever would save Simon without caring what would happen to herself.  Dave, as shown in the book, chose to go through the stargate expecting to be permanently severed from the reality he knew.  Of course, neither character exactly had any better alternatives at those points.  But there's still something to the choice of whether to give up and accept death or to press on into some other kind of unknown.  The former at least involves something that everyone expects at some point.
